The Wi-Fi vulnerability named KRACK has been in the news recently. Hackers can access Wi-Fi networks and get in between your device and the router transmitting the Wi-Fi, giving them access to everything you are doing on the net: passwords, browsing and even some secure sites.
What does this mean for you?
- If you are on your home network the hacker would have to be within range of your router to hack into it.
- Windows 7, 8 and 10 have already been patched against this exploit so if you have automatic updates turned on you are already safe wherever you are.
- If you have an Android device you are vulnerable and will be until Google puts out a patch. To get around this, turn off Wi-Fi and just use your plan’s mobile data.
- Apple devices will be patched in the next update.
It remains to be seen whether your Router itself can be affected but most manufacturers have put out statements saying they are working on putting out updates to address the issue.
